Alison is an adventurer by nature and has walked, trekked, hiked, driven and sailed throughout the world as part of her own personal pilgrimage. Born and raised in the midwest, Alison explored a number of vocations until settling into her career as a psychotherapist, including advertising as a media specialist, in public relations at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, historic preservation architecture, and as a commercial fisherwoman, and as polarity and energy healing therapist.
These diverse and creative vocations have all shaped her kind, openhearted and visionary approach to the science of psychology. Alison is committed to her clients' journeys as they explore deeper meaning and wellness. In private practice Alison often encourages her clientsto walk, often beside her. Walking and trekking continues to be a daily practice for Alison, as it is with sailing, yoga, painting, and family life.
About Alison
Alison Farlow MacKinnon, LMHC is a psychotherapist with over 30 years of witnessing her clients personal odysseys from longing into healing. She has established a private practice that fosters trust, understanding, personal and spiritual growth through utilizing a mind/body/spirit dialectical therapeutic approach. She includes EMDR, intuitively inspired and shamanic focused guidance in her work with clients. In 2020 Alison found an increasing number of her clients who value the transformational power of movement, requested walking- talking therapy sessions. The increased demand for walking sessions led Alison to research the transformative experience her clients experienced during these walking sessions, and her forthcoming book The Healing Walk offers a deeper dive into the healing power of walking.
